about

Emma Waterman is a photographer based in Orange County, California. She uses her camera as a tool to manipulate light and the subject matter in front of her. Many of her photographs are distorted in one way or another: blurred, inverted, or taken so closely to the subject that the viewer cannot recognize it. She hopes the formal aspects of her abstracted images will express emotion and lead the viewer to contemplate their own experience within the context of the work. She is currently exploring the relationship between memory and its gradual fragmentation. The minimal content in her images contribute to feelings of loss and deterioration.
